Day Nine
MACHU PICCHU!! and I am sorry, I still do not have WIFI that is strong enough to upload pictures. I will AS SOON AS I CAN!
Today, we got up and ate breakfast at the hotel and then walked down to the train station. While were were eating, three Llamas came around the corner and looked in at us, walked down some stairs and ended up in the courtyard right next to us. Between the dogs everywhere and the roaming Alpacas and Llamas, Peru is a fun place for animal lovers!
We rode the train through the Andes and along the river. everywhere you looked, there were amazing things to see.
We arrived in Machu Picchu, the modern town and got off the train and headed through a market to the bus station. Once on the bus, we rode up the mountain, back and forth, all the way up to the top, until we got to the entrance to the Incan Machu Picchu. We went through the gate and our guide, Luis, led us in to see the site. it was amazing. We had the only day this week that was sunny and without clouds and rain, and the sites were stunning. It's amazing to see in pictures, but to see it in person is something else entirely.
We toured the entire sight and learned about this amazing place. This was an Incan site in the 15th century that contained a drainage system for rain, a filtering system for water, a bathroom and sewer system, windows that let in the light on the summer and winter solstices, houses and buildings built with perfectly stacked rocks at a 13 degree angle inward as you go up in angled trapezoids while all of the windows and doors were also trapezoids making making the structures earthquake proof, on the very top of a mountain that it took us at least 15 minutes to drive up on a bus. These people were amazing.

Our tour and our day was amazing, and after it was over, we headed back down the mountain to spend a little bit of time in modern Machu Picchu. Then we boarded the train to Ollyantaytambo and back to a quick meeting at the hotel before heading out to dinner. Tomorrow, we head out for our zip line adventure at 10 and then head back to Cusco, for a flight to Lima, and then a red eye back to Houston. It's been an amazing trip, with so many memorable moments, but it is coming to a close soon. This is our last night's sleep in Peru.
We are going to fly through the Andes tomorrow on a wire, and then start to make our way back home.
